DXB vs DWC 2026 — Which Dubai Airport Are You Flying Into?

Dubai DXB and DWC Al Maktoum airport comparison — which Dubai airport

Dubai has two airports and they're 60 km apart. Booking into the wrong one ruins your trip. Here's the difference.

Quick Answer

DXB (Dubai International) is the main airport — 92M passengers/year, all major airlines, central location, metro-connected. DWC (Al Maktoum International) is a much smaller secondary airport 60 km southwest, used mostly by low-cost carriers (Wizz Air, some flydubai, charters) and cargo. They are NOT the same airport. Always check your ticket carefully.

DXB vs DWC — Don't Confuse Them

This trips up at least one visitor a month I know. Both airports are "Dubai" but they're 60 km apart.

DXB — The One Almost Everyone Uses

DWC — The Other One

Why the Confusion

⚠️ Always verify the 3-letter code on your ticket: DXB or DWC.

Cost Difference Getting Out

Booking a "cheap" Wizz Air flight into DWC and then paying AED 150 for a taxi cancels the savings.

Future Plans (2026)

Dubai is gradually transitioning major operations to DWC over the next 10+ years (Dubai Airports announcement 2024). For now, DXB remains the primary airport. Don't believe articles claiming DWC is "the new main airport" — it isn't yet.

What Most Blogs Won't Tell You

For DXB transit options see Dubai airport to downtown cheapest way.

Bottom Line

Always check your ticket: DXB = main, central. DWC = secondary, far. The "cheap flight" might cost more once you factor in DWC ground transport.
