On 28 February 2026, airports across the UAE were forced to close following regional airspace restrictions. Dubai International (DXB), Abu Dhabi's Zayed International, and Sharjah International all suspended flight operations until further notice.
More than 20,200 passengers were stranded across UAE airports, unable to depart.

The Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT) Abu Dhabi issued a circular to all hotels:
*"In light of current circumstances, we kindly requested to extend their stay until they are able to depart. The cost of the extended stay will be covered by DCT Abu Dhabi."*
